Since the city crews are busy clearing the main streets in town, the inner residential streets are rarely, if ever plowed out. Today, with 8 - 10 inches of fresh powder on the ground, the chances of getting down my street were bleak, to say the least. But, what does my neighbor do? Why, he goes to his work site, "borrows" a front end loader, and plows out our street as easy as you please. A case of Heineken await for him from all of his happy neighbors on our street. It must be nice to be a part owner of a construction company. You get to play with Big Boy Toys!

I used to live on the end of a dead end street. They hardly ever plowed our block, but one time we had a huge storm. They figured they'd plow us out this time so the hada municipal plow come down. It got stuck. Then they brought in the big boy dump truck plow. It also got stuck. Then they brought in the front end loader. It pulled both trucks out and cleared all the snow in a couple minutes.

My parents' driveway is a couple hundred yards long with ups and downs, and a couple of times I've used my dad's baby backhoe to clear it of snow. I can only imagine how much faster a proper loader would be.

That's frickin' sweet.

I feel like if my neighbor did that they'd somehow get fined and/or arrested...my town is lame.

That's amazing, and totally reasonable. However, your neighbour can probably get in big trouble for doing this. The city workers union could probably pursue legal action because he "took someone else's job".

I use our loaders to plow the yard at work sometimes, because fuck yeah heavy equipment is fun. In order to do this I walk past four pickups with plows on them that are parked right outside of my office, because they just aren't as much fun. We've got a 2012 CAT loader with real good heat, a radio, and air-ride seat, so if it is accessible that's my weapon of choice.

A case of Heineken? For God's sake reward the guy for helping, don't punish him with skunky beer
